Deimos was considerably calmer, about to comment on not going after him - even though he wanted to tear the guy limb from limb - when Pigeon or whatever spoke first. He didn't catch it all, but caught enough to know he was being challenged, at least in his mind. He tensed again, growling at Gideon. "Stay in your lane." He said. His eyes narrowed, he knew Miles. He had always had an heir of... Deimos could never place it, but it always gave him chills. He knew he could never trust the guy, he had just felt it, now he confirmed it. They worked together often enough that even though he probably wouldn't see the guy anytime soon, he knew he wouldn't have to go searching for him.
"I won't go looking for him." Deimos promised Rosalind, lowering his head. It felt like defeat. He didn't like being defeated. But he would oblige to Rosie's request, even if only reluctantly. He breathed a long sigh, seeming to try to calm himself again. "And I'll be here, so you won't need Pigeon protecting you." He knew that wasn't the guy's name. He knew it couldn't have been, but he couldn't for the life of him think what it was, and it hadn't been repeated for him to try to re-figure it out.

Rosalind let out a soft sigh, glad she'd gotten confirmation from both men. She didn't want either of them to get in trouble on her behalf. Even though in the back of her mind she knew it would be justified (and if she were honest she felt Deimos would probably end up doing something anyway, and by the sound of it Gideon would be right behind him) she didn't feel she was worth the trouble.
"Thank you...I just don't want anything to happen to you guys from going to look for trouble." She chewed on her lip, arms still wrapped around her waist. "Er...I'll go to the nurses office to get a kit done. They should be able to identify him from that...maybe." She was surprised neither of them had asked about it yet. Although she'd only just told Gideon when Deimos walked in, so it wasn't as if there had been time for them to ask.
Rosie looked at Deimos again, hesitating for a moment before going to him and wrapping her arms around him, needing his hug. Gideon's hug earlier had definitely helped, given her some much needed comfort, but she had missed Deimos painfully. She tilted her head up to look at him, eyes misty. "I missed you." Rosalind whispered, a tear sliding down her cheek. She was tired of crying, but apparently her body felt they were still needed. "I called for you...last night. And today. But you didn't answer."

'Stay in your lane.' Who in the heck did this guy think he was? Gideon was half tempted to throw out an 'excuse me, princess', but settled on yet another eye roll. This one was perhaps more deserved than the other, though every notion of sass vanished from Gideon's face when he was referred to as 'Pigeon'. For a moment, he thought he had misheard Deimos, though as he replayed it in his mind he came to realize that he hadn't misheard him at all. He was, in fact, being referred to as 'Pigeon'. What temper he had flared, his ego beginning to pucker under what was decidedly an insult. Yet, he was the one who wasn't staying in his lane?
"You're only here until you have to leave again," Gideon commented snidely, his face puckering ever-so-slightly. He turned to Rosalind, hating to ruin their heartfelt moment, but he had been here first. What was he, chopped liver? His needy stomach growled and he found himself rolling his eyes again.
"I think getting a kit done and leaving it to the professionals is a good idea," he conceded, putting himself aside once more. It was probably the most painful thing to do, if only because his ego didn't like being brushed off. As the two hugged, he chose to avert his eyes and give at least an illusion of privacy, turning so that he could look around the courtyard and see what new plants had arrived. Was he supposed to leave? Was he supposed to go back to what he was doing? The thought reminded him of his novel, which was still laying in the grass near the trees. He'd probably have to go get that.

Deimos wanted to keep his eyes on the ground, convince himself that this wasn't happening, do like he always did. But he couldn't do that, it wasn't even his problem this time. But he didn't want to believe that just because he left the school, he put his girlfriend's safety in that much danger. He saw Pigeon start talking, and his eyes drifted over to him, and even though he accepted Rosalind's hug, he snarled at Gideon. "It was a one time gig." He told the other man. He looked back to Rosalind. "I'm not going to leave again." He promised. There was only one good thing that came out of the trip anyway. It was hot and sunny and crowded and now they had some stubborn blind kid in the school, adding to the count of rowdy and obnoxious hybrids.
He let his eyes go to the ground this time, making a pained face. "I don't really know why it didn't work..." He told her. He hadn't heard her. That broke his heart more than anything so far. She called for him. She'd been calling for him since last night. And he didn't get it. What had happened to the link? Sure he was tired but he really didn't fight Rosie using her telepathy, hell he didn't know how. He bit his lower lip, a little too hard, and sucked on it as he drew blood. He looked up at Rosie, the confusion, hurt, pain, all clear on his face, "I don't know why..." He repeated. Was their link dropping some sort of bitter metaphor for their relationship? Was he losing her? He kind of felt like he deserved it, after what happened to her, but it didn't mean he wanted it to happen.

Rosalind took a step back, a frown on her face. She tried to probe him for emotions, but was getting nothing. It was troubling, especially since he already couldn't hear her. She bit her lip, why, when they had been communicating just fine before yesterday?
And then it dawned on her.
His trip was probably stressful, it had to have been if he picked up smoking (again apparently) and the first thing he did when he got home was drink. And yesterday was definitely stressful for her. And he had told her not to waste her energy before he left. Is that what happened? Were they both too exhausted to talk to each other?
"Maybe we were too tired." She finally said, glancing at him. "You didn't hear me earlier either, when I said his name was Gideon. I don't even know how you got pigeon but that's not his name." She took a deep breath, letting out a sigh. "Maybe we just need to rest, cuz I can't probe or siphon from you either."
She twisted back to smile lightly at Gideon, suddenly feeling utterly exhausted. "Thank you for being here Gideon. I know it was coincidence but it helped a lot."

a one time gig. that's what it always was, wasn't it? perhaps gideon was simply too damn bitter for his own good, but at this point, he was tired of hearing about these 'one time gigs'. had his parent's life of crime only been a 'one time gig', they'd have been set and he'd have still had parents who he didn't loathe entirely. so, in response to that, he rolled his eyes. he'd need to start being more careful with the eye rolls, lest they actually roll to the back of his head. while the two began trouble shooting their connection, gideon moved to grab his novel from its place in the grass, not bothering to hide it any longer. he wouldn't mind if he went back to being the center of attention, and he figured doing something might actually get him to that point once more. perhaps he was just a drama queen, but he didn't really like this whole mushy-gushy-i-missed-you-sweetie nonsense, despite the fact that it was probably something rosie had been desperately looking forward to for a while now. he sighed. a minor battle was won when rosalind informed her man that his name was not actually 'pigeon', and a piece of his beloved ego clicked back into place. he mouthed a silent 'thank you' to rosie, totally able to care less if she missed it. in response to her next statement, he offered up a meager smile, trying his best not to look pained. it worked, for the most part . "you're more than welcome," he offered, "and just remember that i'm here whenever you need me." his eyes made a line toward deimos . "it's not like i ever leave." and really, he didn't. he'd been within the academy's walls for so long he was surprised he hadn't died of cabin fever. notes: sorry i'm late ; - ;

Deimos nodded, "I could definitely use some rest..." He began, then stepped back, feigning feeling attacked. "I knew it couldn't be pigeon but I didn't catch what it was okay?" He told them both defensively. "Contrary to popular believe, lip reading is hard. I'm not always accurate, y'know." He turned to Gideon, "So sorry," he told the other man, not sounding very apologetic at all, "Gideon."
He wanted to comment on the exchange between the other two, still unable to stop himself from snarling at Gideon. It turned into a growl at Gideon's last comment, "One. Time. Thing." He snarled.

Rosalind ran a hand through her hair, sighing at the two of them. She didn't have the energy for this. She was tired, mentally and emotionally, and hadn't slept in god knows how long. "Deimos." Rosalind grabbed his hand, looking at him. "I'm tired. Let's go back to your room to get some rest. I'd rather the two of you not fight right now."
She turned to Gideon, the hand still in her hair. "Thank you again, for being here Gideon. Sorry for interrupting your reading." Rosie offered a tired smile. "I don't have the energy for it now but first thing tomorrow I'll go to the Infirmary. I'll keep you updating, okay?"
With Deimos in hand Rosie pulled him out of the Courtyard and to the staff rooms, making it to his room quickly. Once they got inside she went straight for the bed, plopping into it and pulling Deimos down with her so that she could cuddle against him.
*we can probably do a time skip here to one of them confronting Miles*
