Jungshin sighed, curling up more on the perch. He was in the library, and it wasn't technically a perch but the top of one of the higher shelves that was against a corner. He had a couple books in front of him, finishing off a series now that the last two books had finally made it way onto the continent, but he was getting restless. The winter months meant most students didn't even dream of trying to go outside, because the severely-below-freezing temperatures would affect everyone that wasn't a ghost. He was anxious to see how the penguins were doing, figuring it was about nesting time. He hoped the tourists didn't come too soon after the babies were supposed to hatch. Last time he barely got a chance to play with them. He pouted unconsciously, thinking back to the year prior. The penguins were one of the best parts of being on this frozen desert continent.
Winter also meant the researchers wouldn't be around. He could let his guard down while outside. His eyes drifted to the students in the library. For some reason, there were a lot of them today. Too many, in his opinion. All the tables were filled with students, and they seemed to be trying to keep themselves entertained with various games. Classes were on pause for a week, a way to give the students a break before they went into second semester. Jungshin found most of the classes rather mundane, even after he was tested out of English classes. Not because he was a genius, he was just bored of them. He'd had enough studying and acing everything when he was alive. He let out another sigh, leaning down so he could put the books back where he had gotten them on the shelves. He slid down so he was lying on the bookshelf, staring at the ceiling, lazily waving a hand around. He had to get out of here soon, before he went stir crazy. But with it being dark 24/7, the teachers were more reluctant to let him wander around the continent freely.
He rolled, intending to just lean down to look at more books, when he misjudged the length of the bookshelf and fell off. Forgetting he could stop himself, he crashed onto the table of some female student. "Ow," he said almost instinctively, holding his head as he sat up, still on the table, and looked to the student. He felt like he was blushing. Could he blush? He didn't even know. Running into walls was minor compared to this. He had enough of a reputation of being clumsy. This was beyond clumsy. He crossed his legs, giving the student a small bow, "sorry." He finally said, handing her whatever paper she was working on. At least he didn't land on her laptop, which was just inches away from where he was.

The library was supposed to be a quiet, peaceful place. Somewhere Saoirse could go to get away on those rare days she didn't want to go outside. Supposed to be. So naturally Saoirse was none too pleased to find that, when she opened the doors to the library, it seemed to be crawling with students.
She assumed, with a long sigh, that it was probably due to classes being out for the week and students not knowing what else to do. It being dark out all the time, and the fact that it was cold enough for your breath to freeze on contact, meant most of the students couldn't be outside. Saoirse didn't mind the cold, she could always shift into her were form, and her fur for the most part would keep her warm. But she wasn't going to chance that today. She hadn't wanted to. But...
"Damn it." There were too many people here.
Saoirse let out a silent groan, going over to a thankfully empty table in the back of the library. There were still way too many people around, but at least the spot she'd found was relatively uncrowded. She pulled her laptop out of the bag she'd brought with her, opening one of her ebooks and skimming over it, her eyes glazing over after just a few lines. She preferred physical books but there was no way she was going to weave her way through the sea of bodies to get to the section she wanted. After a few failed attempts at rereading the first paragraph she pulled out her sketchbook, resigning instead to sketching out a shirt idea she had.
She'd just sighed for a second time when there was a sudden body on her table, blowing away the reference paper she'd been using and letting out an "ow." She blinked, registering that the body was now handing her said paper and apologizing to her, finally focusing her eyes on his face.
She didn't know his name but she recognized him as one of the students just a couple of years above her. He was a hybrid if she wasn't mistaken, and she knew at least one half of him was a ghost. "You're a ghost." She finally said slowly, as she took the paper from his hand and tucked it safely into her sketchbook. "Why didn't you just phase through the table?"

Jungshin nodded, "uh-huh, and?" He muttered at her comment about him being a ghost. He felt like he was blushing again. He should really find out if he even could. That was probably something he should know. He scooted off the table, flopping onto a chair across from her and looking down at his hands. "I kind of... forget I can... sometimes." He said honestly. He looked up at her, pretty sure his sheepishness was all over his face. He recognized her somewhat. One of the were-creatures that wasn't as common. He wanted to say fox, but wasn't sure. He fidgeted with his sleeve, looking around at the crowded library. "I was trying to get in a nap or read or something, but it was too loud, so I escaped." He said, pointing to where he had been. "I didn't expect to fall, so I didn't really react in time to um.. stop myself from landing on your table."
His eyes scanned over her possessions, "I didn't break or damage anything, did I?" He asked her softly, biting his bottom lip. His leg jiggled without him meaning for it to; being on the ground, surrounded by every other student, was overwhelming, even when it was just the two of them at this particular table. His eyes scanned for an empty exit, even if he didn't go to see the penguins today, he would definitely need some time in the expansive outdoors rather than the school. Laying in the snow, staring at the sky, maybe there'd be auroras today. That thought calmed him a bit, he loved watching the auroras, his second favorite outdoor activity preceded only by interacting with the penguins. "Ahh... I need to get outside." He muttered under his breath, to himself more than the girl in front of him.

Saoirse stared at him, blinking slowly as if trying to comprehend his words. She watched as he moved to sit across from her, holding in a sigh. It seemed she definitely wouldn't be left alone then. "You forget." It wasn't a question. Saoirse didn't understand the boy in front of her. He was making a weird face, and she didn't quite get why he was so embarrassed. Other than the fact that he seemed to forget one of his abilities from being a ghost.
"You were trying to nap...in the library?" Understanding him seemed to get more and more difficult the more he sat there. Especially when he gestured to exactly where he'd been napping, on top of the bookshelf. "Don't you have a dorm room? Why didn't you just sleep there?" Granted the library seemed like it'd be a good spot to nap, it was supposed to be quiet and relatively empty here. Saoirse found herself wishing classes would start up soon.
She looked down at her laptop, shaking her head at his question. "No, you managed to miss my laptop somehow." She closed the lid, sliding it back into her bag. There was no way she was going to be able to focus on anything now. Saoirse twirled her pencil around in her fingers. She leaned back so her chair was balancing on the back legs, studying the boy in front of her.
"Don't you have somewhere else you can go that isn't here?"

Jungshin nodded to her statement, then again to her question. "Usually," he began, snarling a bit as he looked around, "It's much quieter in here than in the dorms." He explained. He breathed a sigh of relief, "Good, cause I can't afford to get you a new one if I had done something to it." He told her bluntly. He blinked a couple times before nodding, "Yeah, outside." He said simply. He stood up, hands behind his head in a relaxed position. "Fresh air, peaceful open spaces, here I come." He said, pretending it was to no one. But he was in a weird mood today.
He had stalled actually going out already because when it came down to it, he didn't really feel like being alone today. He could get along with his dorm mates, but they all had friends who were more... friend-y with each other than with him. He didn't mind most of the time, but it was difficult on days when he wanted to invite someone to do something and had no one to invite. He knew claustrophobia couldn't be a just-him fear among the academy. It was impossible that none of the other students had experiences that caused that sort of thing. He was casually walking away from the girl, going slowly in case she decided to come with him, about to phase through the door when his desire for her to come and his abilities seemed to conflict and he ran into the door. At least that wasn't as hard as usual. He thought, resting his head against the door. "I give up on today." He muttered, lightly banging his head against the door repeatedly. "Just done."

Saoirse pulled her sketchbook towards her, closing it and slipping it into her bag. Maybe she would go back to her room, like she'd suggested. It had been surprisingly quiet. Still a lot of people but far less than the library. A fact that irked her to no end. She glanced toward the doors at his mentioning of the outdoors. "It's dark out there." She hummed, still rocking a bit. "Can ghosts see in the dark?"
She watched as he stood, not saying anything as he seemed to talk to himself, announcing his arrival to the outdoors. He was a strange person for sure. Instead Saoirse opted to pick at her sleeve, debating on what she was going to do since staying in the library was out of the question. She'd turned her attention away from the boy, since he seemed to finally decide on what he was going to do.
Of course her attention went right back to him when she heard a thump and turned back to see him hitting his head against the door over and over. She sighed, standing the slinging her bag over her shoulder. He was starting to gain a bit of attention. Stalking over to him, Saoirse put a hand on his shoulder, opening the door and pushing him out at the same time. "What is wrong with you?"

Jungshin turned his head without removing from the door. "That is a very loaded question. How long do you have?" He said, only joking, not about the fact that it could probably take all day to describe everything wrong him, but about the fact that he'd even share it in the first place.
He thought a moment, "Not really, unless you're a lucky Hybrid." He shrugged. "I can see alright in the dark, but I mostly depend on the light of the stars and auroras. Speaking of, they were supposed to be out today. Have you ever seen them?" He never paid attention to which students occasionally went outside, so he wasn't sure who had noticed just how beautiful of a place they were living in. Well, when it wasn't being a desert wasteland crawling with researchers, that was.

Saoirse simply stared at blankly, sure he wasn't actually looking for an answer. Not that she was inclined to give him one anyway. She crossed her arms. She'd made up her mind to go back to her room, but now she didn't want to leave this boy alone. If it were possible she was sure he'd manage to kill himself again.
"Are you a hybrid? Or did you just have an accident and now you're doomed to roam the earth forever as a ghost?" She asked, uncaring of if the question was insensitive or not. At his question Saoirse shrugged. "Of course I've seen them. I haven't been outside today because I haven't had the need to shift into my fox. She's been pretty tame lately." She glanced up at him. "Is that where you're going? Out into certain death weather to see some stars?"

Jungshin paused a moment, seeming hesitant to answer her question. The moment of hesitation seemed to cause some sort of shift in his ability to hold up his facade, and for a few seconds, all his wounds were visible again, but he quickly forced them into hiding again. Something about the question hit him straight in the heart. Did he even have a heart? He brought his hand to his chest, as if checking if he could feel a heartbeat. He laughed at him slightly, and finally nodded, "Yeah, werewolf." He said simply.
"Well, yeah. But it's not really certain death weather for me, considering I'm already dead." He paused a moment, staring blankly at her, "And ghosts aren't affected by extreme temperatures anyway." He finally brought his hand down from his chest, looking at his hand for a moment as if making sure his facade was still intact before putting his hands into his pockets, looking to the ground. "Looking at the stars is calming. It reminds me even when I'm feeling too claustrophobic to be in any building there's a vast, expansive universe out there." He explained, feeling it was bit too raw and honest for a stranger to know that, but she already had enough blackmail on him if she wished before he could even say hi to her.

Saoirse blinked, unsure if that just happened or if she was seeing things. "I'm guessing your death wasn't an accident then." She said simply, watching as he moved a hand to his chest. Normally Saoirse wouldn't bother holding her tongue, the curiosity about the scars he was trying so hard to hide strong. But she figured if he was so worried about keeping up appearances he wouldn't want to answer any of her questions. Especially since she was a total stranger.
She sighed, not thinking about it too long before taking his hand and leading him towards the big towards that led to the outside. "Alright then, let's go." She quipped, not really giving him an option. Once they made it to the doors Saoirse paused, letting go over his hand and taking in a breath. "I understand...about the closed spaces. It's one of the reasons I came to the library, it's usually a lot more spacious when it's not crawling with people."
Saoirse pushed open the door, once again taking his hand and pulling him out of the building, the cold air biting at her skin automatically. "Shit, this is gonna hurt." She muttered, taking a few steps away from him and dropping her bag. "The name's Saoirse, by the way." It didn't take her long, the transformations got easier and faster to do the more often she did it, but it did not stop the fact that her bones shifting caused her an immense amount of pain.
Just a few moments later a large, brown fox stood in Saoirse place. She whimpered a bit as the pain took a bit to subside, but finally she grabbed her bag in her mouth, gesturing with her head for him to lead the way.

Jungshin tensed a bit at her comment about his death. He wanted to say something, retort back with something sarcastic, but when he tried, no sound came out of his mouth. He finally let out a small squeak as he was dragged outside. A faint smile formed on his face at her comment about understanding claustrophobia.
He couldn't help but watch in awe as she shifted. He'd only ever had one transformation, and he'd never forget it. He wondered how long she'd been a were-fox. "Oh my god, you're gorgeous," slipped out of his mouth in a breathy whisper, staring at the fox in front of him. He covered his mouth as he realized he had said that out loud. He still wasn't sure if he could actually blush, but he actually felt hot from that comment. He cleared his throat, looking away and to the ground. "I'm Jungshin." He told the fox, before going in front of her and heading towards one of his favorite spots.
It didn't take long to get there, it was a hill overlooking penguins, fathers hunched over eggs, keeping them warm. He smiled to the fox. "In the summer, I like to play with the penguins." He admitted, a smile on his face and his eyes practically shining. "But a lot of times, researchers are crawling around in summer as well." He said with a snarl. He sat down, laying back onto the snow, staring at the sky. "Are you actually warm enough?" He asked her, "I saw a thermometer before leaving, it said it was just under negative 20 degrees."

Saoirse wasn't normally one to be self-conscious around people, but the way this boy watched her made her suddenly very self-aware. It also wasn't normal for her to shift with someone watching. Usually she was by herself, or in the corner of a room somewhere. His compliment caught her off guard though, and she was glad she was in her fox form now so he couldn't see the shock she was sure would be on her face were she were in her human form. Those words weren't something she was used to hearing, especially after she shifted. Were's weren't exactly uncommon at the school, so people didn't feel the need to comment when she shifted, even if she was one of the very few werefoxes at the school.
She made a noise as she followed him when he began walking, once again glad that she was in her fox form. She wasn't one to be at a loss for words and being a fox made it so she didn't have to have anything to say. Saoirse followed him silently, plopping into the snow when he stopped and commented on the penguins. Somehow he seemed like someone who'd play with small animals. And Saoirse found herself preferring the smile that was currently on his face over the look he'd had just a while ago when she'd commented on his being a ghost.
At his question Saoirse looked up at him, yipping quietly. What was the point of asking her questions? It wasn't like he'd be able to understand her answer. She made another noise, moving so she was practically touching his arm so he could feel the warmth of her fur. If ghosts could even feel warmth. She was fine, the negative temperature not really affecting her yet. It might change the longer they stayed out there though.

Jungshin let her come close to him. He wasn't sure how much warmth he could truly generate, but he hoped he was at least helping her keep her warmth close. He sighed, looking up at the sky, currently illuminated by soft green waves. He was quiet for a while, not really sure what to say, but also mesmerized by the sky. After a long while, he spoke, his voice soft, not even sure if Saoirse was awake, "I only ever had one transformation before I died. It was awful. I had nothing proper to eat, and woke up full of scratches." He told her honestly. Something about being out of the tense situation of the crowded library, laying on the snow, everything being so peaceful, he felt more relaxed, like speaking came a bit easier out here.
He looked away from the sky, but didn't look towards the fox, either. "My parents didn't want a werewolf for a son." Was all he said, knowing she was curious about what that moment was when he accidentally let the facade fall. He had a feeling that would only create more questions for her, and maybe in time he'd be able to get himself to tell her, but he couldn't bring himself to do it now.

Saoirse wasn't expecting him to start talking again, his voice startling her and forcing her eyes open. She wasn't entirely sure when they'd closed, to be honest. Being out here was nice, and something she didn't take the time to do very often. Sure she was outside more than she was inside, but that was usually running around as a fox and never just to come out here to sit. It was a nice change.
His words, though she couldn't relate exactly, his a little close to home, even if she couldn't tell him that in her current form. She knew she'd been born to werefox parents, but they had been killed before she'd had her first transformation. She'd been alone, terrified, and in the worst pain of her life at the age of three. She couldn't imagine what situation he'd been in to accumulate those scars, and he didn't seem keen to elaborating.
So Saoirse opted to let out a small whine and shifted so that she was laying on her side, her head was resting in his lap, and closing her eyes once again. He spoke again and she once more let out a low whine. She'd been lucky she supposed, in that sense. Even though her biological parents had been killed due to who, and what, they were, she'd had her adopted parents who chose to keep and raise her despite her being a werefox. She didn't know what it felt like to be unwanted by her parents, and she couldn't imagine how it felt knowing the ones who were supposed to love and protect you did the opposite.
Saoirse rose enough so she could lick his cheek before plopping back down and resting her head in his lap once more.

Jungshin's face turned from saddened to surprise pretty quickly after getting a small lick on his cheek. His heart (?) did a flip, for reasons he couldn't quite identify. His hand went back to his chest, trying to make it seem more casual than him trying to figure why his chest felt like it had become a whirlpool. He took a deep breath, trying to calm whatever it was. Once he was calmed down enough, a giddy smile formed on his face, and went back to looking at the stars. "Thanks." He said, his voice still soft.
