Cailean was bored. He'd finished tutoring a student just a bit ago, and he didn't have another student for several hours. So he'd wandered from the library to the "adult room" as they called it. The name still caused him to chuckle rather immaturely, even after all these years. He ran a hand through his hair, noticing the looks he was getting from a few of the students and smiling in their direction. As he thought, the girl immediately turned away from whisper amongst themselves, unaware or forgetting that he had heightened hearing due to his being a werewolf. No need to spoil the fun though, right? So what were a few comments about what they'd do if they got him alone. Truthfully, Cailean was interested to find out exactly what.
Unfortunately, relations of any kind were strongly frowned upon by the faculty here at Otherworld. Not that Cailean let that stop him at all, he just had to be more discreet about it than he'd been when he was a student. He finally got to the room, pulling it open and glad to see it was relatively empty. The only thing that bothered him about such a rule was the favoritism the staff seemed to show toward certain individuals. And there was one name that came readily to mind.
Deimos Beck. It was no secret that the hybrid was dating, and even engaged to a student. And they didn't exactly try to hide that she'd more or less moved into his room, being in and out of there several times a day. But the staff seemed to turn a blind eye to it, letting the two do as they pleased. So why when he wanted to have relations with a student did they jump down his throat? Was it because he wasn't as visibly mentally scarred as Deimos was? It was obvious the headmaster held a soft spot for the man. Is that why he was able to get away with literal murder?
Cailean sat in a chair, resting his feet on the table in front of him and sighing. The rational part of him, all the way in the back of his mind, knew it was because Rosalind kept Deimos grounded. He'd recently begun tutoring the young girl, a feat that took quite a lot out of him in and of itself, and she was perhaps one of the sweetest fairies around. Especially in light of recent events. Though nobody spoke to him directly, and Rosalind herself didn't divulge in why her personality suddenly seemed a lot less chipper than normal, Cailean had ears everywhere, and it didn't take him long to connect the rumors floating around school to the wingless fairy he saw several times a week. Still, he didn't bring it up to her, and he was sure she wouldn't confide in him any time soon.
All in all, she was good for Deimos. And they were a monogamous couple from what he could tell. It was understandable why an exception would be made for him. As opposed to Cailean, who hadn't been in a real, committed relationship for the better part of six years now. He preferred to spend a nice, cozy night with a girl, and not have to deal with the consequences of a relationship in the morning. Was that so bad?
He slouched some in his seat, closing his eyes. Life wasn't fair.

Two and half weeks. It had been two and a half weeks since he stopped drinking and still his feet seemed to drag him here when he just wandered. Although Deimos was slowly learning there was actually more than alcohol that was served here, the Adult's Lounge was still a dangerous place for him. Especially with having gone over 24 hours without intentional self-harm (actually keeping the knives separate when doing dishes would be something he'd have to start reminding himself to do), his mind had started searching for The Next Thing, and it would be a lie if he said his mind hadn't immediately gone to wanting to drink again.
Regardless, he was here. He was bored, a bit hungry, and could really use some coffee (not that their's was the best in the building). So, after a moment's hesitation, he decided to go inside. It was still pretty empty at least, and the server was one of the ones that agreed to keep him check. So, he sat at the bar, got a coffee and a couple sides of bacon and a side of eggs.
It was only when he decided to look around did his eyes fall on someone familiar. It took everything in his power not to turn around and leave. No. He could be more mature than this. He was hungry. He needed coffee. And he had an easier time ignoring someone than a hearing person would. He kept his head turned away from Cailean, scrolling mindlessly through Tumblr. All he wanted was coffee and a snack, and to also ignore anything the pretentious asshole near him had to say today.

At the sound of the door opening Cailean cracked an eye open, a wide grin growing on his face at who walked into the room. Ah yes, his boredom was finally going to come to an end. While most people were afraid of Deimos Beck, Cailean could never bring himself to be one of those people. He simply didn't find the hybrid scary. Sure he'd killed a guy, but Cailean wasn't a huge fan of humans anyway. Perhaps it was because he'd been raised by his father, and Deimos paled in comparison. Either way, Deimos wasn't someone who frightened Cailean.
Even when Deimos' rage was directed towards him, Cai wasn't fazed. Most of the students (and even a few staff) claimed Cailean had a death wish by actively egging on Deimos, but it was honestly one of the very few forms of entertainment Cailean had at this school. And just as he had been lamenting his bad luck of being bored, said entertainment walked right into the door.
Cailean stood, sauntering over to the bar where Deimos had sat. Rumor had it the hybrid had stopped drinking. Shame. He slid into the seat next to Deimos, tapping his fingers against the bar before ordering an espresso martini. Once drink was in front of him, he made a show of swirling it around and raisin it to his lips, finally turning to Deimos. "What's up, pup?" He asked, taking a slow drink of his martini.

Deimos sighed as Cailean approached him. So much for having a good morning. (Was it even morning still? He hadn't looked at the time.) He rested his head against a hand, looking up at Cailean as the other man approached him. Look at this cocky bastard sauntering up to him like some sort of egotistical Bugs Bunny. Shh, I'm hunting werewolves, he stopped himself from saying, a bemused smile causing one side of his mouth to quirk upwards. He eyed the drink, thankful his coffee showed up so he could at least pretend he didn't care. He brought his own mug to his lips, taking a sip of his drink before looking back to Cailean. "Hmm... Here I thought I'd been successfully avoiding you." He commented finally.

Cailean clicked his tongue, placing his cup on the bar and resting his chin on a hand. "Now why would ye wanna do a thing like that, huh?" He asked, twisting a bit in his seat. He glanced at the cup in Deimos' hand, amused that he was actually not drinking any alcohol. He'd grown used to the smell of kahlua whenever the other man had a coffee. Deimos being sober, or trying to at least, amused Cailean. Did that mean it would take less to push him over the edge? Time to find out. "And 'ere I were thinkin' we were actually startin' to get along." Cailean took drank the rest of his martini, motioning for the bar tender to bring him another one. "So pup, I 'ear ye stopped drinkin'? What ye go an do a silly thing like that fer?"

Oh... so many reasons. Deimos thought, a frown deepening on his face. "Why would we ever get along?" He asked Cailean dryly. He didn't want to deal with this. He just wanted some food and coffee and peace. But no, this is what he got for returning to school. This is what holding a grudge did to him. This is what deciding to stay for Rosalind (though very much worth it) did. His frown turned into a snarl at the comment about his being sober. "It was a request." He answered simply. "One I decided to adhere to." He faced forward, he could ignore the other man if he tried hard enough, though his pride never let him do so for long. He rolled his head back towards his old classmate, eying the drink again before glancing back up at Cailean. God, it smelled good. He didn't realize how much he missed Kahlua. Probably his favorite. He took a (hopefully) discreet, long intake of breath, "And when did you start day drinking?" He asked finally.

"Ah c'mon now, kid. Ah think we'd get 'long perfec'ly fine." Cailean said, knowing he was only stroking the fire. Cailean had no doubt in his mind he and Deimos actually could probably get along if they tried hard enough, but Cailean was too ridiculous and Deimos was too...well, Deimos.
"A request, eh?" Cailean hummed, taking a sip of his second drink. He twisted so that he could rest his back against the bar, crossing his legs and looking at Deimos. He knew the hybrid had said he'd stop drinking several times over the years, and it was amusing to see he actually seemed to mean it this time. Amusing and a bit admirable, though Cailean would never say that to him. "Ah, did Miss Rosalind ask ye ta stop? Such a sweet gal she is. Wonder 'ow ye ever landed yerself a gal like her."
At Deimos' question about his drinking he looked at the cup in his hands, a smile on his lips. The truth was he didn't normally day drink. But he couldn't very well let this opportunity pass him up could he? "Ahh just recently, act'ally. Thought I'd give 'er a whirl, see what all tha hype is 'bout."

Deimos' furled and unfurled his fists, stopping himself from digging his nails into his hand. Or decking the man in front of him. At some point it would be one or the other, inevitably. He knew why Rosalind hated being called kid, he hated it twice as much. But in his defense, Rosie was four years younger, not four months. This was unfair. "We're the same age." He growled lowly.
He narrowed his eyes as Cailean pinned the exact reason he went sober. I ask myself that every day. He thought to himself, but he'd never let him know that. "I'm clearly just more attractive and charming than you." He said instead, though he had to stop himself from laughing at that, he couldn't wait for Cailean's reaction. "And I don't have an accent that is impossible to understand." He added under his breath. He was still surprised he understood Cailean as much as he did; he longed for the days when he was still learning to read lips in English. That it made so much easier to ignore him.
"So what you mean is you're doing it to spite me, then?" He asked simply, swirling his coffee mindlessly with a spoon. The coffee here was always burnt; he debated asking for more cream, but then he felt like it'd be more sugar and milk than actual coffee. His eyes drifted to the alcoholic drink next to him. Kahlua would've eased the bitterness. He started sighing, but cut it off mid-way. He couldn't let Cailean beat him, not like this. He was above being defeated this way.

"Technically." Cailean smirked, taking another sip of his drink. He knew pet names annoyed Deimos. Truthfully, he spoke like that to everyone, but Deimos was the only one who reacted such a way. "Yer point is, pup?"
Cailean turned back at Deimos' next words, folding his arms on the table and raising an eyebrow. "Are ya now? Is that wot ye tell yerself to 'elp you sleep at night? That's adorable, kid." He placed his drink on the table, smirking lightly. "Charming, was it? I guess if people running and screamin' at the site of ye is charmin' then yeh, ye got me on that one." He knew he was exaggerating. People didn't react in such a way to Deimos, but they may as well with the way they talk about him.
That honestly irritated Cailean more than anything. He didn't have anything against the hybrid, just some weird need to poke at him until he burst. But hearing people talk about him like he was some type of monster hit a nerve for him, and he found himself defending the other man more than anything. That often earned him odd looks, as it wasn't exactly a secret Deimos hated Cailean. But that was another thing he would keep a secret from Deimos.
"Gals 'appen to love the accent, pup. Rosie sure didn't have a problem understandin' it last night." He knew those were fighting words, and he wondered if Deimos would actually do anything right now. Could he afford to get into more trouble? Really, could Cailean? "Spite ye? Nah, I ain't that low, kid."

"Eight months out of the year doesn't really qualify as technically, y'know." Deimos muttered flatly. "There's no reason to call me 'kid,' is my point." He scrunched up his face, looking Cailean up and down, "Let alone pup. I'm not one of your little 'pack mates,' okay. I don't do the stupid... pack thing." He muttered.
How did he end up learning to read his accent so well? His brain clearly spited him, considering how much trouble he usually had with accents and then there was the man in front of him. He tried not to respond to the taunting, he knew he walked right into it with his own comment. Still, his mouth seemed to have a mind of it's own, "It's rather useful actually, when one wants to be left alone. So, I find it charming." He said simply.
He was just about ready to punch him for the next comment, and he was seconds away from a wind up when he reminded himself Rosalind was being tutored by him. Why did it have to be him, of all people? Rosie even seemed to like him. Of course, she liked nearly everyone, but that was besides the point. Why did she have to like him? He unclenched his fist again, rubbing his hands on his pants, as if that would smooth out his anger, keep him calm. "Or maybe she was just being polite. I mean... Have her grades improved since you started tutoring her?" He really didn't know if that question would backfire on him or not. He honestly never paid attention to her grades, feeling like he was the last person qualified to lecture Rosalind about getting good grades. Recently finding out he only passed out of pity didn't make it any better.

Cailean rose an eyebrow at that, looking slightly amused. He wondered just how much Deimos knew of his view on packs? Specifically his ex-pack? Sure he wanted to be the alpha of his own pack one day, but because he wasn't born into the role he would have to find a mate first, his Luna. And then other werewolves to be willing enough to join him. That wouldn't happen for quite a while at this rate. "I ain't too keen on pack either, pup." He smirked. "Ye would'nae do too well in a pack any way. Too many rules for one such as ye."
He chuckled lightly, there was no doubt Deimos could be charming if he actually tried. Despite the innate fear people seemed to have about him, he could very well use that to his advantage. The hybrid was just too angry at the world to do so. "I'm sure plenty 'o people find plenty o' things charmin' bout themselves. Don't mean it's so." He finished the rest of his drink, pushing the empty cup away and this time requesting a cup of water. Two cups were enough for right now. "Though ye did manage to bag yerself a cutie such 'as Rosie, so I s'pose ye ain't all that bad."
At the question about Rosalind his smirk turned into an amused smile, and he shook his head slowly. The interesting thing about Rosalind was that he could tell she was a bright student, though he was starting to question even that with her choice in companion. But for some reason, academics just didn't stick with this girl. It was perplexing at best and frustrating at worst. "Yer girl ain't tha brightest when it comes to books, I'll tell ye that. She'll get what I'm teachin' her while I'm teachin' it, and completely bomb the next test she takes in class. Most fascinatin' student I e'er had."

"Yeah there's also the small fact that any pack I've come across really doesn't want hybrids." Deimos replied simply. He was a bit surprised that Cailean wasn't all about packs; the other man had always struck him as someone who'd fight his way to the top. He sure had done that in school. Hell, the runner up for valedictorian had cried because she didn't get it. He wondered for a moment if any other class had such an awkward graduation ceremony.
He narrowed his eyes, not sure what to make of him calling Rosalind cute. Or being close enough to her to constantly be calling her Rosie. As it was, Deimos had only started doing that because talking was taxing, especially when they first met, and Rosalind was just so... long. He covered his mouth with his hand, casually leaning against it, but still couldn't hide the smirk that formed as he saw Cailean just get water. Seeing a chance to be petty, he got the waiter's attention, ordering the same drink at Cailean's last one, and he got a skeptical look from the waiter before he smiled and said, "For my buddy here. Just, my treat." Before turning back to face Cailean, raising his coffee mug, "Seems like you enjoyed it, no?" He leaned back against the bar, sideways in his seat. "Besides, you can't stop day drinking before morning's even over." He told him, still grinning.
Deimos' smile stayed as Cailean talked about Rosalind's class skills. That sounded like Rosie. Maybe preschool teacher wouldn't be a good suggestion after all. It'd be like him becoming a teacher, though he was just bad at school in general due to lack of interest and also it was hard getting through school without a translator. "She's more of a practical person." He said with a shrug. "School is pointless anyway. The only reason we're kept here til 21 is so we can look good if we choose to go back out into the world."

"Ye ain't found the right pack then, kid." Cailean said, though his words were full of bs. His father's pack would never have allowed hybrids, hell he didn't allow a bastard really, and he was his own son. Cailean wasn't too sure if there were any pack out there that would allow a hybrid. There had to be at least one. If anything, once Cailean started his own pack, he would allow whoever wanted to join, provided they weren't hostile and a danger to his family.
Cailean was surprised that Deimos was ordering a drink. Was he giving up on his sobriety already? Alas, the answer was a no when it turned out the drink was for him, and not the hybrid. Cailean smirked a bit, pushing his water away and grabbing the alcohol. "I think ye've got me wrong, pup. I did'nae stop drinkin' cuz I could'nae handle it. I kin drink anyone under a table. But ye've gotta know when ta stop, and I did'nae feel tha need to have more 'an two drinks." He took a sip of the drink, raising an eyebrow. "Are we buddies then, mate?"
At Deimos' next words Cailean barked out a laugh. "School's only pointless ta those who don't none understand it. I fer one did pretty well in school. Though you already know this, we were in tha same class af'er all." Cailean took another sip of his drink, smirking. "Ahh yes, Rosie does seem to be a very hands on learner."

Deimos raised an eyebrow. Not that he'd really been looking for a pack. He neither wanted nor needed one, it was just another family to disappoint him. He might have been lucky enough to join his bio dad's pack, but he had no interest in searching for his biological parents until they were thrust upon him here at school, and so he wouldn't have known the first place to even look for that pack, besides maybe ones in Europe with Asians. Regardless, with the way the weres acted at school, only slightly better than the vampires, he really doubted Cailean's words. He let out a bitter, breathy chuckle, "Uh huh..." He responded simply.
His hand tightened around his coffee mug. "I'd beat you in a drinking match." He stated confidently. It took a lot to even get him buzzed, let alone drunk. Or at least when he was drinking every day it did. He stared behind the bar at some fancily designed bottles put there as a display. Coming here was still a mistake. His food finally arrived, and he munched absent-mindedly on a strip of bacon. He looked Cailean up and down with a disgusted look on his face, "Hell no, malaka." He responded with a toothy grin.
His face quickly fell at Cailean's comment about Rosalind. He's just trying to get you angry... He tried to tell himself. Dammit it's working. He thought, taking in a deep breath. He decided to ignore his comment about Rosie, hopefully that could keep his temper down. "Yeah, I know. You liked to rub it in my face." He was exaggerating and he knew it, but to be fair, they'd been enemies a long time. And while Deimos struggled to keep a passing grade, this guy was over here seeming to have plenty of time to still sleep around and make valedictorian. "And I had a good excuse for not understanding it." Good job Deimos, now it sounds like you threw your fiancee under the bus. "Even though I roomed with 'Mr. Valedictorian' you still spent too much bringing girls back to the dorm to actually care to help." He muttered bitterly.

"I'll let ye in on a lit'le secret." Cailean said, scooting closer to Deimos. "Whole world ain't out ta get ye pup. There are some good people out there. Whether yer a pack man or not, don't mean there ain't one out there that wont 'cept one of yer kind." He swirled his drink in his cup, raising an eyebrow and deciding to divulge a little about himself to Deimos. "Hells, I plan on havin' me mah own pack one day. And I'll be damned if'n I reject anyone based on how they were born." Cailean growled a bit, his hand clinching into a fist. He not teasing Deimos probably seemed out of character but this particular subject hit a little close to home.
"Would ye? Now now pup, lets not get 'head of yerself. Werewolves have quite the metabolism. I could drink this 'ole bar and not feel a thing." Cailean didn't make it a habit to drink excessively but it did come in handy when there was a party. He rose an eyebrow at Deimos, taking a sip of his drink. "Mal-wot? Ye should'nae make up words kid. Don't look too good."
He quickly finished his drink, drumming his fingers against the bar. It was true, he hadn't paid much attention to his roommate. To be fair, Deimos had been the brooding type, and that wasn't really someone Cailean associated himself with. He had interests that laid elsewhere, that didn't involve being a therapist. Of course, after years of living together Cailean decided to be Deimos' personal irritating shadow. It was amusing. "Ye coulda always asked fer help pup. How am ah s'posed to know ye need help if yuh ne'er ask for it?"
