| Salem is typically pretty happy-go-lucky. He tends to let hardships roll off of him. However, he is still rather bitter about certain things or at certain people, and it's really only obvious when he talks about it. He is a self-admitted thalassophile - he loves the ocean. His phone has many pictures of the beach from his hometown. He's somewhat directionless in life, initially just following his sister where ever she went.

Salem was born fourth in his family, and is the only son. His mother instantly disliked him, and she wasn't keen on pretending to like him. She seemed to presume because Salem was a boy, he would not inherit any powers. His father took care of him for a little while before seeming to also give up on him. Before he was three years old, Salem was being raised almost completely by his sisters. It didn't help that his little sister was born when he was two, and she was instantly loved by their parents. With neglectful parents and all but one of his sisters practically acting as if he didn't exist, Salem opted to go to the same school as Sara, the older sister closest in age to him, and the only one who treated him like a member of her family.
His parents were happy to send him away. Sara had opted for a school on the other side of Australia, and so Salem was sent to the elementary school division of the boarding school. Salem often spent time at the beach near the school, and that is how he met his best friend, Aurelie. He was never really social, but they became friends. They met on a day he was working on mastering some elemental magic. Only a couple years after he joined, however, Sara decided to go to a school for supernaturals, as suggested by their parents. At twelve, when Aurelie was scouted to join the school, Salem followed along. Since his sister was already there and his best friend was going to start attending, he figured he may as well go finally. He was nervous about going to an unfamiliar school in a place such as Antarctica, but he was relieved to at least be going with Aurelie.
So far he hasn't minded being at Otherworld Academy. He's been happy to get a chance to learn to use his powers better, and also is relieved to have met other male witches. He still doesn't talk with his parents, and he's still bitter at most of siblings, for the obvious love they received from their parents when compared to him.
