At heart, Nadia is an idealist. She places great stock in intangibles like honor, compassion, and loyalty, and desires to make the world a better place for her fellow supernatural creatures and humans. She is a bit of a dreamer, and will sometimes lose sight of the fact that the world isn't black-and-white.
Generally, she does well at school, passing most of her classes with ease - except for most science classes, much to her chagrin - and makes acquaintances easily. She is charismatic, but finds it difficult to make close friends, particularly considering the fact she has pointed ears and her classmates are all human.
Nadia is a very curious girl, and rather civic-minded as well, always asking her teachers why the status quo is what it is. She idolizes the likes of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Nelson Mandela - as well as being a fairly avid fan of the X-Men.

Nadezhda Sophia MacLaren was born to Gabriel MacLaren and Tatiana Petrova on June 24, 2000, in Edinburgh, Scotland, as the result of a whirlwind six-month-long romance. Unfortunately, her Elven mother died due to complications in childbirth, never telling the - very much human - Gabriel what exactly her heritage was beyond Russian, instead insisting on the name for their child with her final breaths, as well as never seeking out her own relatives. Nadia's father, unable to cope with raising of a supernatural child and the death of the love of his life, handed her off to his parents, Aoife and Robert MacLaren, disappearing until Nadia was ten, married to a human named Rose Blackwell.
Gabriel's parents, surprisingly, didn't object to Nadia, raising her as one of their own. By and large, her childhood was quiet, punctuated only by periodic bouts of vicious bullying, due to her inability and unwillingness to hide her ears - which were often accompanied by self-defense lessons with a hybrid instructor, at least until Nadia declared her status as a pacifist when she was thirteen; thereafter, she researched her abilities relating to magic and animals - and her periodic efforts to discern the other half of her heritage.
Her mother had never explained to her father who she was, except for on her death bed, when the doctors had informed the MacLarens of her supernatural status. Even then, she had refused to inform her relatives, hysterically claiming they would take Nadia from her.
When her father returned to Nadia when she was ten, it was only to see if "it" had inherited Tatiana's heritage; upon seeing Nadia's pointed ears, he left for America with Rose, only returning shortly after Nadia had turned sixteen, less than a year after the birth of his second child, wondering if he could make things right. However, by this point, Nadia had long lost any desire to re-connect with her father. They are barely on speaking terms, and their relationship remains strained.
Most recently, Nadia has made her way towards Otherworld Academy on some mysterious advice of her grandfather, who suggested she go there to meet other supernatural creatures since she's become ever more isolated in the face of increasing physical differences between her and her classmates. There, she hopes to meet someone who has some clue of who her mother was, and why she was so determined to keep Nadia away from them.

Gabriel MacLaren: Extremely strained; he is human, and has never quite coped with the fact that Tatiana was an elf, and that his daughter is the same.
Aoife MacLaren: She and Nadia are by and large fairly close; however, she's never quite understood why Nadia insists upon her activism.
Robert MacLaren: Idolized by his granddaughter, he's often the one urging her on when she's gotten an idea into her head, and suggested the Otherworld Academy to her.
Rose Blackwell: Relatively distant. Nadia and Rose don't understand each other, and don't care to.
Tatiana Petrova: Possibly the biggest mystery in Nadia's life; she doesn't remember her mother, and is determined to find any living relatives she could have there.
