The apartment wasn't necessarily messy. Yet Cailean had managed to come in and find something to clean every day that week. Deimos was still in shock that he'd broken up with Rosalind. Him. Rosie didn't break up with him, but he broke up with her. He was probably being hasty but it really seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Still, it sent him spiraling into depression, and so even getting out of bed was hard. He called off work enough that they were getting frustrated, only sending "ok" when he'd text to say he wouldn't make it in again. Letting down his coworkers only made him feel worse, and encouraged anxiety, and it was this spiral he couldn't get out of. He'd at least managed to make it out of his bed today, laying on the couch as the television played. He didn't know what was on, he hadn't been paying attention. He had a bottle of peach vodka on the ground next to him. He had had a piece of (unbuttered) toast for breakfast, so at least he ate something, but his stomach was begging for more food. It was amazing how if left alone, all his bad habits came rushing back. His eye glazed over his arm, he didn't even know when cutting became a habit. Sometime after he had first promised to stop drinking. One vice for another, and now all of them at once. It was a wonder he didn't take up smoking again, though he never liked the taste of tobacco, which was why that was the one vice he never really got into. Tag: Cailean Alistair Rose

Cailean sighed, fishing around his pocket for the key to Deimos' apartment. The pup worried him more than he wanted to admit, especially now that'd he'd gone and left Rosalind. Stupid emotional hybrid. One little misunderstanding and Deimos had to go and mess up the best thing to ever happen to him.
He unlocked the door, unsurprising to see Deimos on the couch. He was glad he'd managed to at least get out of bed, as Cai wasn't really keen on cleaning bed sores any time soon. "Aye mutt." Cailean waved his arm to get Deimos' attention, taking off a shoe and tossing it at the hybrid. "Ye actually get yer arse outta bed today? 'ave ye eaten anythin'?" He felt like he knew the answer to the question already. He went to sit on the couch, purposely choosing to sit near Deimos' head so he could shift the hybrids head onto his lap.
Cai began stroking Deimos' hair, making a face when he felt the grease build up. "Don't tell me I'll have to wash yer hair too. When's the last time ye showered?" He signed in Deimos' line of vision. The bottle of alcohol didn't escape Cai's notice, and he let out a soft sigh. "What do ye want to eat? I kin make stew. It should be easy enough on yer stomach since I know ye aren't eatin' nearly enough."

Deimos let Cailean pull his head into his lap, not having enough energy to really fight him off. "I had toast." He told Cailean simply. He blinked at him wearily. Then blinked again. His brain processed the signs, but it took him a moment before his eyes narrowed. "How the fuck-" He began. He tried to remember if Rosie had said how long Cai had been practicing, but thinking of her just made his chest ache. He shot up at the mention of giving him a bath, feeling like he was blushing. "I can shower myself!" He told Cailean a bit too firmly.
He turned in time to see Cailean mentioning stew. "Uh... yeah. Whatever." He said, shifting awkwardly. He ran a hand through his hair, holding back a grimace at the greasiness of it. He was a bit more functional today, he supposed he could get himself into the shower. "Put lots of meat in it." He muttered, shuffling his way into the bathroom.

Cailean moved his head back in time to avoid getting headbutted by Deimos. He couldn't help the smirk on his lips when Deimos declared his ability to shower himself. Whatever got Deimos off the couch and into the bathroom was fine by Cailean.
While the pup shuffled off to the bathroom Cailean took the time to grab the bottle of alcohol off the floor and casually pour the remaining bit into the sink. He looked into the fridge, clicking his tongue at the near emptiness. It was a good thing he brought stuff with him whenever he came over or Deimos would surely starve.
Cai got started by browning the meat in the pan, and while that was cooking he got some veggies (more than Deimos probably would want but Cailean was beyond caring). As he heard the water in the shower start, Cai suddenly realized he hadn't seen Deimos grab a change of clothes. He shuffled into the bedroom, shaking his head at the mess in here as well. Didn't he just clean this like, yesterday?
Clicking his tongue, he put that aside for now and went to dig through Deimos' clothes, settling on a comfortable looking pair of pants and a t-shirt. With those in hand, he went to knock on the bathroom door, then realized how stupid that was and just walked into. He stuck his hand into the shower, tapping Deimos on the shoulder to get his attention. With the one hand he quickly signed that he brought him a change of clothes and to not forget to wash behind his ears. Cai left the bathroom before Deimos could respond, whistling.
It didn't take long for the meat to be done, and Cailean transferred the meat to a pot, added some water, veggies and the stew mix he'd brought and left it to simmer, going to sit on the couch and wait for Deimos to be done with his shower.

Deimos was already in the shower when he realized he had forgotten to grab a change of clothes. It didn't really matter, the two of them had roomed together, it wasn't like there was anything the other hadn't seen. He had just finished washing his hair (It's longer than I thought, He had mused.) when he opened his eyes and saw Cailean's face. He froze, once again only his mind acknowledging the signing. When the hell did Cai learn to sign one-handed? Exactly how long had Cai been studying it? And why did he never bother to tell him about it??? He let out a belated sigh and a thanks, not even knowing if Cailean was still in the bathroom, and finished washing up. Taking a shower helped his mood a little, at the very least his stomach and mind were finally in agreement he needed food. He pulled on clothes and ruffled his hair rather than brushing it, then went out.
Immediately his nose smelled the stew and his stomach grumbled. He shuffled into the kitchen, grabbing a bowl and scooping the stew until he wouldn't be able to walk and carry the bowl without spilling. As he was leaving the kitchen, he noticed the bottle of vodka was now empty and near the trash can. "That wasn't cheap you know." He grumbled, eying Cailean. Still, he left it at that and sat on the opposite end of the couch as Cailean. "Thanks." He muttered. He took a bite. Well, another thing to hate about Cai. He could cook. Really well. Not that Deimos would be the one to ever tell him that.

Cai surfed through the channels on tv, but nothing really captured his interest enough so after a few minutes he decided to straighten up the bedroom, checking the food ever now and then until it was done enough for his tastes. He'd finished straightening the living room and kitchen and had plopped back onto the couch by the time Deimos came out of the shower.
"All clean?" He signed when Deimos returned with a big bowl of stew. A part of him was secretly pleased that Deimos was actually eating something he'd made, and even more pleased that the mutt seemed to actually enjoy his food. "Maybe ye should'nae be spendin' what mone ye have on alcohol when ye haven' been ta work in weeks." Cai scolded, flicking Deimos on the forehead.
"Ye can't keep this up, Deimos." He added, sinking into the couch. Though he tried not to let it show around Deimos, Cai was tired. It was getting harder for him to keep the exhaustion from showing, and at this particular moment, the comfort of the couch was urging him to close his eyes for a bit.
"Ye ain't gotta thank me though." Cai sighed, cracking open an eye to make sure Deimos was still paying attention to him. "Ah'll take care o' ye for as long as ye'll let me." He closed his eyes again, wanting to give into his body's need for sleep. "Eat more. Ah made plenty fer ya."

Deimos winced at the flick to the forehead, but otherwise didn't move much. He knew Cailean was right, but he really didn't want to admit to himself anything coming out the werewolf's mouth was right. At this rate, he'd have trouble paying rent for next month. He sighed, he supposed if he could force himself out of bed and into the shower today, he could force himself to work tomorrow. His manager had sent him the schedule for the next week and his punishment for missing so much was his hours being cut severely, so he'd have to find some way to make it up to the manager before the end of month. However, after nearly three weeks of nonstop drinking, the thought of being sober for even just the five hour shift he had the next day made him feel a bit queasy.
He lowered the bowl to his lap, realizing he'd been spacing out, and looked up to see Cai at the very least half asleep. Taking care of him must be tiring. He felt a bit bad about it, but it wasn't like he had asked Cai to take care of him. He would've been fine if Cai had stayed in Antarctica! He huffed, despite his own stubbornness he was glad Cailean was taking care of things. He set the bowl on the floor next to him, not feeling that hungry suddenly. He laid down, taking up the cushions Cailean hadn't, but couldn't sleep, so he just stared at the ceiling, as he had been doing before Cai came in.

The feeling of movement jolted Cailean from his half asleep state, and he blinked his eyes open to see the bowl on the ground and Deimos once again lying down.
"Oi." He snapped his fingers to get Deimos' attention, and then gestured to the bowl on the ground. "Ah know ye didn't eat enough that fast, even for you." He shifted a bit so that his head was the one laying in Deimos' lap this time. Once comfortable he reached up to poke Deimos' chin. "What's on ye mind?"

Deimos blinked at Cailean's question. "Uh... nothing really." He began, sitting up as Cai laid in his lap, absent-mindedly playing with the other man's hair. Fourteen-year-old him would've been over the moon for a chance like this, now all he had was contempt. Well, mostly contempt. Something about him being around for nearly ten years had caused him to form a soft spot in Deimos' heart. More things he'd never admit to Cailean.
"It just... must be hard taking care of me." He mused aloud.

Cailean hummed lightly, the feel of Deimos playing with his hair oddly soothing. It took him a moment before responding. "It is. Ah dunno 'ow Ros'lin does it." He spoke honestly. A light smile touched his lips and he looked up at Deimos. "Ah don' mind it tho. Let's me know yer still alive an' well. Er...well as alive an well as ye kin be."
He poked at Deimos' chin again, lazily. "Ye don' make it much easy either, mutt. Ye could resolve all this if ye weren' so god damn stubborn. Go talk to Rosie. Make things right." He shifted so it could point to the kitchen. "An' finish eating the food. I aint slave o'er a hot stove fer ye to not eat mah food!"

Deimos frowned at Cailean. How dare he. How dare he say he was hard to take care of, he wasn't supposed to agree. On top of that, he still didn't know how he felt about being called a mutt by Cai. He knew that he never said it with malice or teasing, not like the other people that called him that, but did Cai really find it acceptable to call him something derogatory? He narrowed his eyes and looked up at the ceiling again. And what did he mean by as alive and well as he could be?
His mind reminded him that not even a month ago, he was perfectly fine, well on his way to recovery from both alcoholism and the more severe symptoms of his bpd. He basically had gone from "depression who?" to hello darkness my old friend... He sighed, looking back down at Cai. "Yeah, you're probably right." He said simply, not necessarily explaining what he agreed with. "I'll eat more later. My stomach's upset." He lied.

Cailean made a noise before sitting up, forcing the sleepiness back once again. "Bad stomach?" He questioned. He stood, grabbing the bowl in the process. "Ah'll go get ye somethin' fer that. Ye don' have much here and the bits ye do have would'nae be much help."
He went into the kitchen, washing out the bowl and slowly putting away the extra stew. A part of Cailean wondered if maybe he said too much. Even if it were something Deimos needed to hear, his friend wasn't in the strongest frame of mind. And Cailean really didn't need Deimos doing anything rash. Still...Cai looked over towards where Deimos was.
Cai went back to the living room, leaning down to press his forehead against Deimos'. "Ahm leavin now." He said. "Ah'll be back in a bit." Don't do anything rash. He wanted to add but he felt he probably shouldn't give Deimos any ideas. So with that he straightened and left for the store.

((Warnings: self harm))
"You don't have to..." Deimos began, but he spoke too quietly and too belatedly for even Cailean to be able to hear him. He remained still for a bit, staring at the ceiling and letting himself get overwhelmed by the depression that had been lingering. He could just go talk to Rosie, but she was probably mad at him and didn't want to talk. She probably didn't even care. And Cai seemed to care but he also called Deimos a burden. Again with being called a burden. How many people he cared about would say that about him? His adopted parents had already said it once, when they thought he couldn't see him. The pain in his chest was unbearable. If only he had a gun, it would be a lot easier to end it all.
But would he even be able to pull the trigger? A sharp pain on his arm made him look down, and he realized he had been clenching onto it tight enough his nails had started digging into his skin. He sighed, getting up stiffly and shuffling into the kitchen, setting the bowl of stew on the counter. His eyes lingered on a knife in the sink. He really wasn't sure exactly when he started resorting to cutting. He did it a little as a teen but found it stupid and so stuck alcohol to slowly destroy him while easing the pain and hurt. He picked up the knife numbly, holding just too tight his hand stung. He wanted to feel something. He watched as the blood dripped into the sink. He realized belatedly he'd been dissociating, probably for a while now, but didn't really feel like coming back down yet. He leaned against the counter, staring at his wrist as the cut on his palm stopped bleeding. There was an easy method to end it all, slicing his wrist open. If he cut deep enough, he wouldn't be able to stop bleeding before it was too late. He hovered the knife over his wrist, but couldn't bring himself to actually cut too deep. How long would he be a burden to others? cut What would he do without Rosie? cut Why did he do that Rosie? cut He sank down to the floor, feeling like he was on the verge of tears. He'd swear he had cried more in the last year than the last 23 combined. He buried his face, a hand clenching the knife again, though this time it was enough to hurt but not enough to bleed. How could he have gone from doing so great to spiraling so fast? Because of that guy? Rosie had gone from perfect angel to the most hated person just because of a guy? The worst part was that he knew, despite feeling hatred towards her, his true feelings, sans bpd, still loved her to death.

Cailean wasn't gone long. Luckily Deimos lived close to a store, so it didn't take Cai long to grab some ginger ale and a warm compress. Within minutes he was back at the apartment and unlocking the door.
He wasn't sure what he expected to find when walking in, but Deimos in the kitchen, blood and knife in hand, was not it. All too soon images of that night years ago, of finding Deimos unconscious in their dormroom came rushing back, and it knocked the air out of Cailean's lungs, taking a moment before the fear that dropped in his belly turned to anger.
Before he could stop himself he was storming into the kitchen. He dropped to his knees, ignoring the sharp pain that accompanied the action, grabbing Deimos' bleeding wrist so he could get the boy's attention. "Are ye out of her bloody mind?!" He growled. "Ah leave for 10 fuckin' minutes and this is what ye go and do?"
Cai closed his eyes, taking a deep breath and trying to force the anger back. He stood, pulling Deimos to his feet and into the living room. Wordlessly Cai pushed Deimos onto the couch and then went to search for a bandage.
After finding one he went back to Deimos, patching the hybrid up.

Probably. Deimos thought to himself at Cailean's first question. He let the werewolf lead him to the couch, sitting back and staring at the wall. As Cailean returned with bandages and began patching him up, he moved his eyes down to look at him. "It's all already stopped bleeding." He mumbled.
He realized belatedly that Cai was upset with him. No, not upset, but angry. A lump seemed to form in his throat, stopping him from saying anything else. There he was being a burden again. "At least this way I'd stop being a burden for you. Not like I even asked you to be here." He grumbled under his breath.
