NOTABLE;- faints at the sight of blood (from a person), she can to some extent handle seeing a vampire eat pre-packaged and what not, though she gets rather nauseous.
SKILLS - sleight of hand, hypnotism, fortune telling, and other tricks, gambling (more correctly, cheating via counting cards), and to some extent, stand-up comedy and improv
UNSKILLS - combat, gardening (surprising), singing/instruments, navigating, humility
HOBBIES - practicing magic, reading instructional manuals, and writing short stories |
- determined: some may claim that Valerie is foolish and stubborn instead, but the truth of the fact is that when this girl sets her eyes on something, one will have better luck wrestling an alligator than bending her will. To add to it, Valerie's determination is imbued with a prideful nature. Hence, giving in is a blow to her ego, something she despises.
- enigmatic: to be a magician, a comedian, a performer of any kind, one has to have a dramatic flair. Valerie certainly has one, she demands attention simply in the way she enters a room, with a flourish and entitlement. Her elven nature only seems to compliment her when she's putting on airs, soothing and coaxing her audience. There's just something which people can't put their tongue on, a joy and spirit that refuses to be beaten down.
- quirky: all in all, putting aside her love for magic tricks, Val is admittedly a bit dorky, and she's got a soft spot for the nerd past times like D&D, she's also a big fan of Star Trek, and often quotes the series as a part of her own personal joke.
- just: though she may seem a bit flashy and troublesome compared to the typical elf, she has a moral compass, yet at the same time she's the sort who recognizes the grey area between morality, given she's been there herself. She sees all sides of the situation, and isn't the sort to quickly accuse unless she is certain that wrong is being done. In addition, while she does not forgive deathly grievances, she stands with the belief that people deserve more than a second chance.
- starry-eyed: one of the biggest dreams of Val's lifetime is to become a famous magician, but even today she's looking at showbiz through rose-colored glasses, she's easily blinded by the fame and the bling, and often fails to account for the consequences of fame, and recognition.

| An aspiring magician, who also enjoys a great deal of tricks, ranging anywhere from so-called fortune telling to beast-taming (made easy given her elf nature). Valerie is a cheerful enigma, who captivates and draws in her audience, and takes the stage when there's not even one there. She's always sociable, and has a self-assured confidence that makes her enviable among some. Those who become closer however, will realize there's more to the girl than meets the eye. She's someone who's worked to master some of the most minute tricks, and had to earn money to purchase books and convince people to let her perform. She had to earn it against her moral compass, through cheating and gambling, and regularly deals with put-downs from her own family advising her to chase another career, or else. Valerie is a girl who spent two years volunteering at a hospital just so her family would be happy, and proud of her, and eventually came to Otherworld because they would no longer let her come home so long as she pursued her dream career.

Born to a family of human doctors, lawyers, and politicians, many of them Ivy League graduates, Valerie was an unexpected surprise. However, the family's problems with Valerie did not necessarily relate to her elven nature, but rather to her dreams and goals in life. From a young age, Valerie proclaimed she wanted to be a magician one day, and at first the family thought nothing of it. Two years later, starting in a prestigious private elementary school, Valerie had stubbornly clung to the dream, and the family grew concerned. When she started actively working towards mastering magic in late middle school, her parents outright banned her from pursuing it. Valerie then turned to the internet to learn more tricks, until that too was taken away, and eventually resorted to illegal gambling joints where she would earn money to purchase the various books and props she needed. It was around this time that her parents decided that an introduction to their work environment might inspire her to finally take up an interest in medicine or the like. However, it worked rather the opposite, and roughly two years into volunteering, she'd started to faint at the sight of blood, and the hospital no longer permitted her as a volunteer. At around seventeen, her parents started considering emancipating her early, and after a particularly nasty argument, they were happy to. For roughly a year Valerie managed to support herself through street performances and staying overnight at the closest center. Unfortunately, there were many nights that she was denied, but she tried not to let it get to her. Around the time she turned eighteen, she'd been witnessed by a scout doing one of her street performances, and was offered a chance to come to the Academy. The prospect was daunting to someone who'd had relatively little exposure to the supernatural world, and who knew little about it, but at the end of the day she accepted, having grown tired of the harsh words and sneering looks sent her way. The Academy dazzled her, and she spent the first few days in a bit of a stupor until she settled in, it didn't take her long to make friends, and it felt nice for once to not be singled out. Yes, there were some... significant adjustments, such as eating lunch with vampires and werewolves, and all sorts of other supernatural creatures like her. Knowing something existed was quite different from stepping into the world yourself.

Raul A. Sanchez, 46, father
Marie Wales-Sanchez, 48, mother
Rowan Mayfield, 20, boyfriend
|
| Raul Sanchez: Valerie got along better with her father than her mother, but even then that doesn't say much, both parents were distant aside from trying to drive her to a different career path.
Marie Wales-Sanchez: Valerie's mother was likely the strongest advocate in trying to convince Valerie towards a different career path, and ultimately the one who decided to emancipate Valerie, as such, friendly relations are near non-existent between the two.
Rowan Mayfield: Val's boyfriend, it's fairly recent, they met when she took a vacation to England earlier this year, Val adores him, but the feelings seem to be one-sided. Long-distance is shaky at best for these two. |
