The library was all but empty save for the few students nestled into crevices tucked away under lamplight as they worked through the evening drawing strength from whatever unhealthy snack they’d smuggled into the hallowed halls of the library. Running a hand through her hair Juniper sighed and stretched from her place by the window. It was raining today – which made a change from all the snow fall – selfishly the young elf wished it would wipe away all the white so the green lush colours of nature could return to the valley. It would never happen – and so she would have to settle for the courtyard which wasn’t a terrible consolation prize.
Her brown eyes flicked back to the pages of the old dusty hardback. She’d lost interest long ago and although she was actually interested in the subject for once the young elf had clocked out deciding enough was enough for one day. There had to be something else she could occupy her time with – anything. It was far too early to return to her dorm (there was no point either) and containing herself in her bedroom would only leave her feeling annoyed and even more bored. Hauling the massive book under her arms she struggled back to the shelf she’d plucked it from gazing up at the massive shelf Juniper gulped. It was easily ten times taller than she was (or at least it seemed that way), and someone had rather rudely removed the step ladder leaving it nowhere to be seen.
She glanced around the aisle – no one was around maybe she could climb up to the top– it was five shelves up and she was light enough (thank god for elven genes). Without hesitating she pulled herself up with a determined grin finally she reached the top and slid the book back into its place.
“Easy,” she grinned feeling all too proud of herself. Carefully she took the first step down almost making it to the bottom when the loud sound of oncoming footsteps caught her off guard.
Immediately her foot slipped from the third shelf and she toppled down landing in a heap in front of whoever the footsteps belonged to. Sheepishly she gazed up with apple red cheeks that almost matched her hair.
“Don’t mind me just dropping in…” she said with an awkwardly she laughed but it died in her throat and Junipers voice trailed off.
